What’s this? Whenever you type anything on your keyboard, it is converted to a series of electrical impulses, a process known as a keyboard event. Modern keyboards use a collection of sensors to convert the key presses to electrical signals, and then send those signals to your computer's operating system through a USB port or other connection. However, older keyboards might only send the key presses down the serial port. In these cases, an external hardware expansion card would be needed to convert the signal from the keyboard into electrical impulses that could be sent over USB or RS232 directly. Typically, this is a device that you plug into the expansion slot of the motherboard, and then connect your keyboard to it. This allows you to use a vintage keyboard with modern software. If you have a vintage keyboard sitting in a closet somewhere, there’s a very good chance that an adapter exists for it. So what’s wrong?
